ABOUT THE ROLE
This is a hands-on advisory focused role, which represents a fantastic opportunity for someone looking for the next step in their career. Progression to Head of Department level for the right candidate.
• Working collaboratively within the team to support the senior partner develop and deliver the strategy for the global mobility business unit
• Managing a global mobility tax compliance portfolio:
• Review of work undertaken by other members of staff
• Self-assessment tax returns
• Short term business visitor and Appendix 5 reporting
• Shadow payrolls and P11D reporting for expat assignees to the UK
• Appendix 6 Modified Payroll
• Experience of managing S690 directions
• Non-resident landlord compliance
• Tax equalisation calculations
• Identifying and providing advice on issues arising from compliance work
• Proactively managing an advisory portfolio, covering aspects such as:
• Tax efficient secondments to the UK
• Social security
• Statutory Residence Test
• Remittance Basis
• Claiming treaty exemption from UK tax obligations
• Review of tax clauses in legal contracts
• Voluntary Disclosures to HMRC
• Managing tax appeals and disputes with HMRC
• Due diligence work
• General advisory work, as required
• Supervision and on-the-job-training of junior staff/trainees
• Billing/WIP management
ABOUT YOU
Qualifications
• CTA, ACA, ACCA, ADIT qualified
The ideal candidate has the following experience
• Sound personal tax compliance experience. Experience of using IRIS an advantage
• Experience in practice and/or inhouse
• Managing a personal tax compliance portfolio, including review of self-assessment tax returns for ex-pats prepared by other members of the team
• Advising inbound companies regarding employment tax aspects for ex-pat workers from the UK perspective
• Advising clients on the management, coordination, administration and compliance of international assignments, transfers and relocations.
• Advising employers on global assignment policies and processes
• Advising on tax efficient assignments inbound into the UK for expat workers.
• Short term business visitor agreements
• Modified Payrolls
• Advising expats regarding UK tax compliance and planning around statutory residence test and remittance basis
• Non-resident landlord compliance
• Working with corporate tax colleagues to develop strategies to solve complex technical challenges
• Liaising with external immigration partners
• Review of and advice regarding tax clauses in legal agreements
• Correspondence with HMRC regarding appeals and negotiations to mitigate penalties
• HMRC clearances
• Due diligence / advice regarding tax warranties on SPAs
• Disclosures to HMRC regarding retrospective tax obligations
