Tax Defence Manager or Assistant Manager

Our client is a well-respected established business in Nottingham. They have a newly created role due to expansion of the team.
This will be a challenging role for an enthusiastic, well organised and tax qualified (ATT or CTA) team player in a fluid and technically strenuous environment
Reporting to the Tax Defence Associate Director
Salary attractive and salary and title dependent on current position
• Management of a team of 3/4 Tax Defence Executives.
• Developing and supporting team members so they give of their best- with the assistance and support of the Senior Manager as appropriate.
• Support to clients under enquiry by HMRC. This will involve telephone calls and emails and occasionally meetings.
• Support to accountants whose clients are under enquiry by HMRC. This will involve telephone calls and emails and occasionally meetings.
• Building effective working relationships with the HMRC officers involved in the enquiries. This will involve telephone calls and emails and occasionally meetings.
• Ensuring many demanding deadlines is met.
• Acquiring a good working knowledge of the legislation and practice in relation to
 HMRC enquiries
 Discovery
 Litigation of tax disputes
 HMRC information powers
• Acquiring a good working knowledge of the subject matter of the tax disputes so that the team members, clients and accountants can be supported accurately.
• Ensuring a range of complex processes are operated consistently and accurately by the team and looking for improvements in them.
• Ensuring the Money Laundering Policy of the firm is met by the team and complete packs are prepared for review and approval by senior staff.
• Preparing engagement and disengagement letters for review and approval by senior staff.
• Overseeing accurate dissemination of updates on a range of issues to accountants and clients.
